The National Arts Foundation Committee for Classical Music and FIGURA Ensemble
cooperates with the composer Steingrimur Rohloff as Composer in Residence for the period 2010-2011.

The agreement implies that Steingrimur Rohloff writes 4 works for FIGURA Ensemble and the composer and ensemble jointly communicate the current works and the composer's business nationally and internationally.

Work orders includes working with the Seattle Chamber Players and the Icelandic CAPUT ensemble.

Steingrimur Rohloff was born in Reykjavik in 1971 by an Icelandic mother and German father. He has taken his education respectively at the Musikhochschule Cologne, Conservatoire Supérieur National de musique de Paris and at IRCAM in Paris. He has studied with the composers Krzysztof Meyer, Marc-André Dalbavie and Gérard Grisey.

FIGURA have repeatedly cooperated with Steingrimur. At first at the Reumert prize winning show "The Story of a Mother" January 2009.

In December 2009,  FIGURA premiered Steingrimur's work "Hit upon" in Salt Lake City. Recently Steingrimur has written music for FIGURA's opera "4 Angles on Medea" in cooperation with the Danish composer Nicolai Worsaae, the Norwegian composer Henrik Hellsteinius and the Swedish composer Malin Bång. In spring 2010, was the first performance by FIGURA Steingrimur's song cycle "Still not / not yet" in Seattle. 
In spring 2011 Steingrimur composes the score for FIGURA's new opera "The Motion Demon"
