CABARET SONGS with Signe Asmussen brings
New York's cozy and jazzy contemporary music to life!

"Cabaret Songs" is a concert of English-spoken cabaret songs. Soprano Signe Asmussen sings modern musical stories accompanied by FIGURA. Jazzy new music by Derek Bermel, Benjamin Britten and Williian Boscom - last 2 in new arrangements by award winning FIGURA composer Peter Bruun.
With compositions by New Yorker virtuoso, Derek Bermel and lyrics by Wendy S. Walters FIGURA sets a modern American cabaret work on the stage. Derek Bermel belongs to a generation of composers who work freely with the score. He is an excellent musician and has won both awards and recognition for his clarinet playing - even in jazz context.
FIGURA have worked with Derek Bermel for a long time - Cabaret Songs written for FIGURA was an offshoot of the Danish Arts Council's big New York venture for FIGURA's summer concerts at the Louisiana Museum in 2007. Additionally, a new music show with FIGURA and Derek Bermel is in the pipeline to be produced in New York 2012/13.
Most recently, Cabaret Songs played with great success at the Arthelas Festival in Copenhagen, June 2010. Signe Asmussen, by critics proclaimed as an "intimate vocal seducer" is the voice of this musical tale. Her curiosity and voracious musical appetite, noticeable in a rarely seen presence that just delivers the intimacy as she is known for.
